As most of you will be aware by now, Heath Ledger has been cast as the Joker in the new batman film. WHY?? Not that Robin Williams would neccessarily be better at it, nor is Paul Bettany the ideal person…but Heath Ledger? Even for those who thought he delivered a great performance in Brokeback, his character hardly had much flair. I really don’t see this working…I mean how can this:

..be replaced by this??

Ok back to work :p

Most textbooks of the history of art will cite cave paintings as the earliest examples of human art discovered. Cave paintings are found all over the world, many depicting humans and animals, the latter being thought to be associated with hunting magic, or perhaps even primitive spirits and gods. These primitive pieces of art give us insight into the creativity that seems to be an integral part of human nature, and hence many of them have been analysed thoroughly, allowing us not only to get a look into the prehistoric human mind, but also unearthing a wealth of symbolism that pervades human experience.
In a striking recent discovery, one particular symbol has been found recurrently throughout art, even in the aforementioned cave paintings.
Click here for one of many such images.
This bears a striking resemblance to a piece of art postulated by a relatively unknown artist known only as The Maestro (blog) to be a fundamental component of all art. Perhaps with time more of these startling discoveries will be uncovered.

Ok first let me explain. SKIP is this charity society I’m somehow in the committee of, and i volunteered to do their poster for them (you should’ve seen the original one they were going to put up. If you guys are reading this, sorry, but it was pretty dire.) Originally it was going to be this band called ‘The Renditions’ so i decided to title the poster SKIP Renditions…but there were some venue screwups and now its played by this band called Sketchbeat. And hence the rest of the comm came up with that title. To be fair, I couldn’t think of anything catchier
Its here.
The cluttering with text wasn’t really my idea, but I did agree with the comm that it lacked the sort of eye-catching information that appealed to students, i.e. the promise of cheap booze.
What’s disturbing is that I haven’t had this much fun doing ANYTHING in ages and ages. When I’m doing that stuff its like everything else doesn’t matter. If only I had the time to take a course to really improve my graphic design…
P.S. guess who the guitar player is.
P.P.S. oh er, and if you’re in London on the 6th of July, you can come along and donate towards the committee’s holiday in Ghana. Ha, ha, no really, its a research project, we swear.

I’ve always felt that as a Batman villain, the Scarecrow had so much more potential than they ever gave him, and even in the film Batman Begins, didn’t manage to do him justice. They just turned him into a poncy scientist with his magic powder. This is copied from comic As the Crow Flies whilst idling away in Waterstones Piccadilly. Apologies for the poor quality, drew it quickly with ballpoint pen. Think this is what The ScareCrow should be like all the time, not just in a one off comic. (more…)
